"Jester" is the newest addition to my "Cosmic Zoo" series. Handbuilt ceramic, hammer formed aluminum and copper, one of a kind. 10" h x 12" w x 10" d, wall mount. Series is meant to celebrate sentience/intelligence arising ubiquitously throughout the infinite cosmos...of which humans are but one instance...an instance I am very happy to be a part of! A notion has crept into my psyche that I'm not the first, only, or last artist in the cosmos to imagine my extraterrestrial counterparts coming to the same realizations and conclusions I have — namely, that time has always been and always will be, and that space extends in all directions without end...and that there have been, are now, and always will be an infinite number of sentient civilizations throughout spacetime. Some contemporary physicists go so far as to say we each have innumerable duplicates "out there." I've recently been imagining these innumerable former, present and future "me's" pursuing this exact same train of thought, and that we all had/have/will have this supra-cosmic idea: To host a perpetual intergalactic art show on the topic! (And they're thinking about me thinking about them thinking about me thinking about them making artwork for this ongoing show...) It adds a whole new dimension to my experience; an existential camaraderie of infinite proportions. This inner thought experiment/experience has been changing my inner personal identity for some time now — away from "human/me," toward "self-aware intelligence/cosmos"... So far I'm keeping up with my resolution to draw *something* every day... Series is meant to celebrate sentience/intelligence arising ubiquitously throughout the infinite cosmos...of which humans are but one instance...an instance I'm very happy to be a part of! I have this notion that I'm not the first/only/or last cosmic artist to imagine my extraterrestrial counterparts coming to the same realizations and conclusions I have — namely, that time has always been and always will be; that space extends in all directions without end, and that it is/was/will be populated by innumerable sentient civilizations — and that they have made/are making/will make artwork about this exact same topic! It's as if we are remote participants in a continuously running Cosmic Art Show... They're thinking about me thinking about them thinking about me thinking about them making artwork for the show... I designed this today, a play on my initials to support out of this world creatures for my "Cosmic Zoo" series of ceramic / mixed media sculptures...not sure exactly how I'll use it...just pursuing ideas, letting them percolate... I want to make space wanderers' aviator-style hats and maybe flight suits for my alien comrades, this might make a cool fabric patch/insignia to put on them...but my sculptures will likely be a more expressionistic style, and unless I make pretty big sculptures the patches would likely be too small for embroidery to carry the detail...maybe decal media? Or a good ol' low tech transfer method might work, and be sufficiently grungy to fit the style... I'm getting caught up on crow/raven orders for galleries, can't wait to play with clay! “Quiet Solitude under a Canopy of Stars” 33-1/2″ h x 13″ w x 13″ d Handbuilt ceramic sculpture, one of a kind, oxide and pigment patina. SOLD (~2009) Personal subtitle for this piece is “Where did Atom come from?” as this little sentient being spends quiet, reflective hours in the black of night watching the stars rise and set in great sweeping arcs (wherever she is in space-time). I could try to write more about the meaning behind this piece, but feel that the attempt to express it in words could not possibly come close to what I intend, so will for now leave it to you to imagine within yourself…hopefully enlightened by your own experience of the nighttime cosmos from a dark-sky location. There's been a holiday stampede on my line of cast crows/ravens—which I do appreciate—*but*...now it will be a long slog to build back up my inventory and fulfill gallery re-stocking orders... Which means it will be awhile till I'll get to do any new work to share with you, so I'm crowprastinating by looking back through old photos to post in the meantime. I just joined IG a month ago, and didn't know what to expect. I've been pleasantly surprised so far. As I've explored hundreds/thousands of artists' posts, there seems to be a genuine sense of respect and support for each other's work and process. I'm simultaneously inspired and daunted by the amazing work I see in my feed from artists all around the world...I can't believe HOW they can POSSIBLY be so talented! I feel almost subhuman by comparison... But I also think being here will motivate me to up my game in 2018. Feet of clay...for a large hare sculpture I was working on a few years back. There's been a holiday stampede on my line of cast crows/ravens—which I do appreciate—*but*...now it will be a long slog to build back up my inventory and fulfill gallery re-stocking orders... Which means it will be awhile till I'll get to do any new work to share with you, so I'm crowprastinating by looking back through old photos to post in the meantime.
